David de Gea has signed a new long-term contract last year.
With a crucial Europa League clash on the horizon, Manchester United are planning for the challenges ahead in the upcoming campaign, too. Considering a curtailed break before the 2020/21 terms kick-off, it is only judicious to complete the tweaks at the earliest.
Thankfully, the club bosses have refrained from putting all their eggs in the Jadon Sancho basket, implying by the proceedings. Many salient decisions need to be made before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer imagines closing the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Before De Gea committed his further services at the Old Trafford, the Man United chiefs were looking at possible alternatives to bear the goalkeeping gloves. A keen eye was given to Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak, who is recently linked with rivals Chelsea.
Dean Henderson, after dominant performances in past two loan spells at Sheffield United, has staked a prominent claim to bear the responsibilities of being Manchester United’s number one. Recently, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addressed his goalkeeping conundrum, too.
"“I think I must be the most privileged manager in the world with the goalkeeping department, with Sergio, David and we’ve got Dean Henderson coming back. Three top, top ‘keepers.”“This season has shown how important Sergio has been for us and for me David always, always performing. We will see what we do for the rest of the season and going forward.“It’s difficult, but it’s a nice problem to have.” (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, via Evening Standard)"
Citing Henderson’s tremendous progress, Man United have begun talks with player’s entourage to elongate the current club agreement which expires in 2022. It looks increasingly likely that Solskjaer considers the English talent as a vital part of his plans after the Blades’ recent activity.
Sheffield United have made their move to sign promising keeper Aaron Ramsdale, having their second bid of £18.5millon accepted by AFC Bournemouth, as per Sky Sports. It suggests that manager Chris Wilder is planning his further assignments without Dean Henderson.
It would be interesting to see how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer manages his crop of three goalkeepers- David de Gea, Dean Henderson, and Sergio Romero- who all desire to be a regular starter for the club. Perhaps, it might be time for the Argentine to seek a new challenge away from Man United.
Also, there has been a talk to send Henderson away on another temporary spell away to an environment with a different challenge than Sheffield United. It would be an interesting proposition for a player who now finds himself being termed as a first-team goalkeeper on Man United’s official website.
Of course, an interesting set of events lies ahead before Solskjaer finalises his squad for the 2020/21 campaign.
