Manchester United want to conduct a massive clear-out this summer.

The day was December 29, 2020. Manchester United had made a confusing start to their 2019-20 Premier League campaign, and one of the most ferocious giant-killers in the league was waiting along the road as their next opponent.

Facing a physical team such as Burnley has always been a tough task for any so-called top-six side, especially if the game is to be played in front of the boisterous crowd of Turf Moor. The game presented a few players with the opportunity they had been looking for a while to impress the Norweigan manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and secure their names in his regular teamsheet.

The absence of Paul Pogba, who was going through a rough patch due to an ankle injury, at the heart of the midfield saw Manchester United academy graduate Andreas Pereira getting another chance to shush his critics.

The sound of the match referee’s first whistle saw the feet across the ground gather the pace, with United looking for a vital win away from Old Trafford. At that time, Manchester United were dubbed as a team that don’t play well enough outside their home ground and without their home crowd.

On that night, Turf Moor had the chants of the travelling Manchester United enthusiasts, though they soon faced the defeat in that particular department owing to the extensive voice of the local supporters.

After what was a really bemused 43 minutes to watch from the away stand, some Manchester United fans might have just started thinking about their half-time plans, and then the unlikely situation occurred that forced them to burst out their emotion collectively and take a leap as high as they could on the air to feel the utter amusement of the goal scored by Anthony Martial.

It was Burnley’s left-back Charlie Taylor, who was the culprit of losing possession on the left-hand side of their defence. Andreas Pereira, who had collected the ball, flung a Beckham-esque through ball to Martial, who did the rest to break the deadline.

Pereira’s assist got the same amount of praise as Martial’s crispy finish. The game ended in a 2-0 scoreline in the favour of Manchester United.

That being said, the through ball from the Brazilian playmaker was the last trace of his goal-contribution for Manchester United throughout the 2019-20 Premier League campaign — he has not scored or helped someone to score in the Premier League since then.

Not only in the Premier League, but the 24-year-old midfielder has massively failed to impress across other competitions, with him racking up only two goals and three assists from 1720 minutes in total.

Hence, since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January and the return of Paul Pogba from the aforementioned injury, Pereira has turned into an obsolescent figure in Solskjaer’s first team, with the latter getting only 62 minutes in all competitions following the restart of football across the UK amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, according to the reports from Brazilian source Esporte Interativo, Pereira is in the hunt for the next challenge in his professional career and is reportedly in contacts with the clubs from Portugal, Spain, and Germany.

It has also been reported that head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Pereira to stay put at Manchester United, although the player has made his intention of leaving the club very clear to the gaffer.

Reports also suggest that Valencia president Peter Lim would love to get Pereira back at the Spanish club, where he spent his one-year loan spell in the 2017/18 season. Manchester United need cash should they want to make more than one signing this summer, and Pereira’s departure could help them pocket some much-needed cash in the middle of the financial chaos.
