Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not having a merry transfer window thus far.

A third-place finish in the Premier League was the stuff of dreams for Manchester United, who were languishing in the mid-table as January transfer window headed towards the conclusion. The hypothesis changed into reality as Bruno Fernandes changed the course of Reds’ season since his arrival at the Old Trafford.

The campaign which was inclined towards mediocrity, suddenly, has transformed into a beam of optimism of what the future holds for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his squad. As United gear up for their semi-final clash against Sevilla in the Europa League, planning for the upcoming campaign is in the process too.

Solskjaer, with a strong finish to the 2019/20 campaign, has earned the right to demand world-class signings from his paymasters. However, the post-COVID transfer market has its own challenges, as witnessed in the club’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

Despite a firm interest in Sancho, Borussia Dortmund’s slant demands have pushed a prospective deal into a stalemate. Now, Man United need to find a solution to formulate a financial package to revive the transfer situation.

Man United are not expected to finalise any transfer deals before the Europa League campaign finished, to ensure zero deviation from the European assignment. However, the club bosses’ have a few negotiations in the pipeline which could accelerate once the tournament gets over.

Donny van de Beek, who is identified as an able competition for Bruno Fernandes, has handed a minor setback to United chiefs, saying he would be happy to continue at Ajax amid an interest to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

"“It is very messy, in any case, a very messy period in terms of transfers,”“If there had not been the coronavirus, it might have been different now. There is no clarity now and we have to wait and see how it turns out.”“I’m still here and after all these years I still have a lot of fun. If I also play at Ajax next season, I still have a lot of fun. You won’t hear me complaining.” (Via Daily Mail)"

As per the Manchester Evening News, Donny van de Beek had been of interest to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before signing Bruno Fernandes in January. However, the Norwegian has rekindled his attention towards the Dutch international, citing a lack of quality depth in the playmaking area.

The 23-year-old was deemed a medical away from being announced as a Real Madrid player. But, the pandemic has changed the situation, leaving the Spanish giants with little money to work with this summer.

Man United, though, have made necessary discussions with Ajax to sign the player, who is keen to test himself in the Premier League. But, as things stand, the Reds have their sights on Jadon Sancho and would move for other targets once they gain clarity over the English winger’s scenario.

It is also understood that Solskjaer prefers Jack Grealish over Donny van de Beek due to the latter’s leadership skills. But, Aston Villa’s upscale transfer price could tempt the United bosses to pursue a deal for the Netherlands international.
