Manchester United’s transfer business depends on their player sales this summer.

We haven’t even reached the halfway point of the 2020 summer transfer window, but there is an absurd feeling of nervousness working within the Manchester United fanbase — perhaps they might have expected United to make some notable acquisitions within the first few weeks of the transfer window. But that hasn’t happened yet.

The joyous mood that the ambitious United fans all around the globe enjoyed after United had secured their Champions League spot for the next season on that sunny afternoon at Leicester’s King Power Stadium has started fading away, as all eyes have now turned towards the potential departures and the possible arrivals.

In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the stories of the plausible moves for Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish, the ones that once were used to generate clicks, are now going through a barren patch with no substantial updates coming from the so-called reliable sources.

The financial conundrum enforced by the coronavirus pandemic has already set a limit on the allotted balance clubs across Europe might have decided on spending during the summer transfer window. For Manchester United, the limit is not supposed to be as narrow as it could be for others.

However, spending around €120 million on one player might force them to rethink over their planned transfer dealings. Hence, the destiny could see United walking on the same road as that of the teams seriously hit by the pandemic and sell some of their unwanted players in the summer transfer period to generate more cash, which could be used in the future.

Manchester United are believed to have already chosen some players who could leave the Old Trafford should the perfect offers arrive this summer. One of those names includes Manchester United’s 27-year-old Jesse Lingard.

Having made 40 appearances in total across all competitions, Lingard has produced near to nothing for the Mancunian club, garnering four goals and two assists. According to the report from Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, AC Milan have prepared a four-man shortlist of potential attacking arrivals that has Jesse Lingard’s name in it.

The other three are believed to be Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina, Gerard Deulofeu from Watford, and Milot Rashica from Werder Bremen. And with a proven agent in Mino Raiola behind him, Jesse Lingard could expect him to play in Serie A next season alongside his former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

For Jesse Lingard, Manchester United reportedly want €16.6 million (£15m) — a price tag that makes him the cheapest option available on the list. Yet, it is suggested that the Englishman is not a priority for Milan this summer.

While the upcoming weeks could see a turnaround in the story, reports from Sky Sports have claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Manchester United academy graduate to stay and fight for his place in the starting eleven next season.

With Lingard having left only one-year in his current contract and getting no reassurances of playing time in the future from the boss, a summer move to Italy or anywhere else could see him revive his disturbed footballing career.
