Phones are ringing like a cacophonous orchestra inside his office. His texts ping back and forth endlessly and sweat is drooping on his forehead amidst the stifling British summer heat. The Manchester United chief is made for this time. It is when Ed Woodward comes alive.

The United chief hasn’t often thrived in these situations. Summers windows of the past have elicited him a barrage of criticism and have enraged some Red Devils supporters.

The circumstances around the current window are even more adverse than ever before. With an incurring financial strife gripping the globe, Woodward will not have it easy. Many have spouted that it will be a buyer’s market but that is simply too optimistic and overlooks the major losses United are bound to incur.

More from Red Devil Armada

Yes the Red Devils will be in a much more stable position than most but it will still be a disadvantageous position.

And spending cash around hastily can have the potential to backfire and hurt the club.

Nonetheless the Red Devils will still need to strengthen.

Ed Woodward therefore has quite the challenge ahead of him. The club chief is currently believed to be embroiled in strenuous negotiations for United’s main target Jadon Sancho. Borussia Dortmund will be looking to make a hefty profit from the England international and the club chief certainly doesn’t have it easy.

And according to Jan Aage Fjortoft via the Daily Express United could be about to scrap all their other transfer plans if they are forced to break the bank for Jadon Sancho.

That would mean no other reinforcements this summer which could be a huge gamble.

Yes Jadon Sancho should be the utmost priority for Woodward. The 20 year old has the potential to become a superstar. However not buying other reinforcements could seriously backfire.

United are still clearly in dire of need of midfield replenishment. Especially considering the likes of Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira could leave, meanwhile Pogba has previously had injury struggles.

The defence is still somewhat shaky and finding a partner for Harry Maguire could also be vital to help proper the club to the level most fans would like them to be.

Signing Sancho would be revolutionary. However not strengthening at the back could hold the club back.

Next. Looks like United will finally sell one of their longest servants. dark
