Manchester United could be edging closer towards a transfer.

The union between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon has been sown over and over again. Forged by the sensational arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Red Devils pursuit of Sporting players has only paid dividends to the club.

From Nani, Marcos Rojo and now Bruno Fernandes, United’s success rate is one hundred percent from the Portugal capital.

And it doesn’t look like the Red Devils will rest their laurels.

You have to strike while the iron is hot and it seems United are looking to do exactly just that.

There have been numerous reports linking promising Sporting left-back Nuno Mendes with a move to Old Trafford and the young talent could have just given a major clue about his next move.

Speaking to Record via Sport Witness, when pressed about his future Nuno Mendes revealed that his preference when it came to the big European leagues is the English one. The Sporting full-back said the following:

"“I like the English league.”"

That small flicker of information could be a major indication of Nuno Mendes’ next destination.

The Portugal youngster is clearly keen on a move to England and with Man United interested it seems like there is no obstacle standing in his way.

At 18 years of age Nuno Mendes has already done impeccably well in Sporting’s first team and with the right academy education behind him he could thrive at Old Trafford.

Perhaps the only minor obstacle which could stand in Nuno Mendes’ way is the fact that United have Brandon Williams in the first team in the same position and at a similar age who is rated just as highly.

Add Luke Shaw into that equation and it is hard to see where Nuno Mendes would fit in. The Portugal talent is well skilled and he has the pace to succeed in Solskjaer’s system but he would also need time to settle and accustom to English football.

With the Red Devils aspiring to return back to the pinnacle it is hard to see how Nuno Mendes would be given the time he needs in order to thrive at Old Trafford.

Perhaps this move could be the case of the timing not being just right.

If it happens maybe a loan deal would be the smartest option.
