Manchester United: Solskjaer still keen on signing compatriot in the future
By Bence Bocsak
The Manchester United boss still wants his former player.
Molde is an industrial city on the edge of Norway. Surrounded by the North sea, it is a port city where not many hang around or linger. Few things of importance happen in Molde. But now the city could be on the cusp of becoming a footballing landmark and much of it can be attributed to the current Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Perhaps Solskjaer himself was unaware just how significant his second managerial spell in Molde would prove to be. Yet when he saw the bulky blonde Erling Braut Haland he must have had an inkling that he was onto a raw diamond.
The United boss gave Haland his professional debut in the first division of Norway and helped to hone the forward’s skills. The 17 year old would develop into a formidable forward. He would become Molde’s clutch player and would be voted as the best young Norwegian at the end of the season.

Just as Solskjaer would depart Norway, Haland would look for pastures new too. His fate would see him further accelerate his career at Red Bull Salzburg where he spent just under a year in total.
When it was time to move, Erling Braut Haland had plenty of suitors. Solskjaer was keen to bring his former protege to Old Trafford but in the end a move never materialised.
Now the teenage sensation has set things alight at the Signal Iduna Park and is already Borussia Dortmund’s prized asset.
Erling Braut Haland has been tipped to become one of the best strikers in the game and at the same age his numbers in terms of goals and assists are already better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It will be no surprise therefore that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to give up his pursuit of his compatriot. According to the Evening Standard via the Daily Express the Man United boss is keen to lure Erling Braut Haland to Old Trafford in the future.
United are not exactly short of attacking options at the moment. The likes of Martial, Greenwood and Rashford have thrived since the resumption of the football, but a player of Haland’s ilk could certainly help to elevate the Red Devils.
