Manchester United could be about to make an aggressive move.

Over the years under Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at Manchester United, the Scotsman faced several mighty challengers who sought to topple his hegemony. From Arsenal’s invincibles to Manchester City’s riches and fleeting challengers like Blackburn, Newcastle or Leeds United. However perhaps his greatest challenge was that of Chelsea.

Armed to the teeth with a well equipped arsenal, Roman Abramovic fashioned the London based outfit into a superpower in world-football within the space of just a couple of years.

Under Ferguson’s reign a fierce rivalry developed between the two great sides. It was certainly steeped in elitism with the two teams competing to be the best in England.  Undoubtedly Chelsea perpetually put up a tremendous fight, but the United boss always managed to silence the blues in the end.

More from Red Devil Armada

From a Champions League final victory to pipping them to the Premier League on numerous occasions and some classic encounters on the field, Ferguson always had the last laugh.

Two players who fought in several of those battles were Frank Lampard and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The pair of them have since hung up their boots and ventured into a new role as the boss themselves.

At the helm, they are no longer fighting for the ultimate prize, but rather merely a place in the Champions League for next season.

And their fight is set to be extended to the transfer market too if the reports are to be believed.

According to The Sun via the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are in ‘pole position’ to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester City who is also a key target of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

The move would be a bold one from Solskjaer with Ben Chilwell valued at around £60 million. It would be a surprise to see the club make a move for the left-back with the Red Devils well stocked in that department thanks to Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams.

Ben Chilwell is undoubtedly an excellent footballer. His performances at Leicester this season have rightly earned him the number one left-back slot for England’s national team.

Yet in the current climate, even if it is to spite Chelsea’s attempts of getting back on their perch, spending such hefty cash on Ben Chilwell would not make sense for the Red Devils.
