Manchester United are cruising at the moment.

In the wake of some fine home and away victories over the last few weeks, Manchester United met Aston Villa in an empty Villa Park on Thursday’s late evening fixture in the Premier League.

It was the battle of two teams edging towards two different goals — For Aston Villa, it was their chance to stake the claim for next season’s top-tier football, whereas, for Manchester United, it was a bid to close the gap with Chelsea (currently at the 3rd position) and Leicester City (currently at the 4th position).

The first twenty minutes of the game was all about the home side as it United lost possession too many times in their own half. Pogba’s mistake at the heart of the midfield almost costed United the first goal of the match. But they survived luckily from that situation.

A controversial penalty decision at the 27th-minute led United to the anticipated goal. Bruno Fernandes — the creator and the scorer — sailed the ball past the Villans’ goal-keeper, Pepe Reina, opening the scoreline for the Mancunian club at the 27th-minute of the game.

Just before the half-time, Mason Greenwood, 18, came up with his powerful right-footed screamer to extend United’s lead. Following the half-time break, United continued their authority on the game, resulting in a long-awaited goal from Paul Pogba.

Villans got no chance to open up their account in the second half as United got a perfect away victory, making a new record of becoming the first team to win four consecutive matches with a margin of three or more goals in the Premier League.

For manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the match eventually was an event to make checks, as reported by Express Sport, on two summer transfer targets — Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings.

Both Grealish and Mings had had a very quiet game, owing to the fact that they were roaming in the hind side and chasing the game with inadequate ammunition in their arsenal.

Grealish, 24, has been perpetually linked with a summer move to Manchester United. On the other hand, ESPN have suggested that Mings’ name is in United’s summer shortlist for the defenders.

Both Grealish and Mings have played pivotal parts in Aston Villa’s recent success, helping them to secure the promotion last season. On Thursday, Mings’ solidity at the back was crystal clear on bare eyes as United’s all goals — ignoring the penalty — came from outside the 18-yard box.

With Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones all reportedly leaving the red side of Manchester at the end of the current season and the playmakers like Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Andreas Pereira seeing out their future elsewhere, Manchester United need to add quality to their ranks this summer. They can certainly get the qualities in Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings.

However, it remains to be seen whether they spend the allotted money on these Villa players or not.
