Manchester United star tipped to become the next Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo
By Bence Bocsak
Manchester United could have a star in the making.
The two burst onto the scene almost simultaneously. They became icons. People were mesmerised by what they were able to do on the pitch. Their status has become ethereal in football and their hegemony has stood for over a decade. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will be remembered as two of the best players to have played the game. Manchester United will be credited with helping to shape the career of the former and they could be about to emulate that once again.

With Messi and Ronaldo both growing in age and the ravages of time slowly catching up with the pair of them, their time left at the pinnacle of the sporting sphere is ticking ominously. Soon a new heir will ascend their throne and topple the long-standing hegemony.
And according to former Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov one of those potential candidates could be the Red Devils’ very own Mason Greenwood.
Speaking to Betfair via the Daily Express, Dimitar Berbatov tipped Mason Greenwood to become as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the future.
The former Bulgarian international said the following:
"“We have Neymar, Mbappe, Greenwood, and other young players that can hopefully reach the highs of Ronaldo and Messi, as unbelievable as that may seem. Mason Greenwood has really impressed me, even before his last game, he always gets his shots on target, and he has two good feet, not just his left.”"
Those words will weigh heavy on Mason Greenwood’s shoulders. The 18 year old has only just enjoyed his first season in senior football and while he has performed with distinction it is far too early to make comparisons to the two Ballon D’or winners.
Greenwood however does possess the right attitude and mentality to go far in the game and like Berbatov said, the 18 year old’s ability is unique.
If he continues in the same form, there is no doubt Mason Greenwood will become one of the best players in the game.
For now though the youngster should be well guarded and guided with caution.
Wonderkids of similar quality have experienced major plights in recent years and too much hype heaped on his shoulders too early could be a detriment to his career.
The aim should be for Mason Greenwood to keep his feet on the ground and to continue to work hard and hone his skills.
With what he has shown on and off the pitch so far there is no doubting Greenwood has the drive to keep himself focused.
Do you think Mason Greenwood will become as good as Ronaldo or Messi?
