Manchester United are considering defensive recruitment this summer.
Manchester United are arguably playing the best football on English soil since the resumption of football, and even some rival fans would agree on the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men’s ruthlessness could be the reason behind them playing in Champions League next season.
The Red Devils have missed out on only two points since the restart — perhaps the 1–1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur was the aftermath of not playing professional football for nearly three months. But since then, for Manchester United football club, everything has been fine — maybe not everything.
The recent frailties in defence have already become two of the most concerning factors amongst the United devotees — the other is their No. 1 David de Gea’s disquieting form under the bar.

While fans are happy with what full-backs have been doing on the pitch, the team’s first-choice centre-back partnership of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire is facing all the criticism at the moment.
The centre-back pairing that had cost United a reported amount of £111 million in total — £80million for Maguire and £31 million for Lindelof — remained exposed when a darting run of Spurs’ January signing Steven Bergwijn led the home side to open the scoring somewhat surprisingly.
Lindelof could have been done better had he got that pace to cover the area — at least the majority of United fanbase think so. And considering the matter, it is believed that Manchester United could sign a defender this summer.
According to a report from ESPN, Manchester United have already targeted three centre-backs to presumably partner Harry Maguire in United’s starting line-up next season.
As per the report, Nathan Ake from AFC Bournemouth, Tyrone Mings from Aston Villa, and Alessio Romagnoli from AC Milan are being identified as the possible options for the forthcoming summer transfer window.
Both Nathan Ake and Tyrone Mings have proved their traits in the Premier League this season, making 27 and 28 league-appearances for their respective sides this season, and, as it stands, both could miss out on the chance to remain in England’s top division as both Bournemouth and Aston Villa are two of the likeliest teams to get relegated by the end of the ongoing 2019-20 season.
On the other hand, Alessio Romagnoli, since joining Rossoneri from AS Roma in 2015, has established himself as one of the key men in the current Milan side, attracting interest across Europe’s top clubs.
It is not the first time that the 25-year-old, who has played in all 31 games in Serie A for AC Milan this season, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. But what could play a pivotal part in securing the move is the Champions League.
AC Milan have not been in the elite tournament since the 2013–14 season — when they got knocked out at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 with a 5–1 aggregate scoreline.
United are currently favourites to seize their Champions League spot via the Premier League. And should it happen, it is suggested that United would be able to lure Romagnoli to ‘The Theater of Dreams’.
Whom would you prefer among these three options?
