Manchester United could be using Sancho as a smokescreen.

For months on end, his name has been almost synonymous with Manchester United despite having never donned the famous Red Devils colours. Every media outlet and fan had Jadon Sancho on their lips. His arrival seemed like an absolute certainty.

Fans and pundits have already heralded him as the long awaited replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and the perfect heir to the number seven shirt at United. Jadon Sancho has been compared to the likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.

He is regarded as the man to take the Red Devils back to the pinnacle of English football.

Yet in the past few weeks the Red Devils stance seems to have changed about the Borussia Dortmund winger.

United no longer seem to be willing to sanction a hefty move for the winger with reports claiming it is unlikely the club can meet Dortmund’s valuation of over £100 million. That is likely to scupper plans of luring Jadon Sancho to the club this summer.

However according to the Daily Express, United’s valuation of Jadon Sancho, which is around £50 million, might be enough to land another Bundesliga star in Kai Havertz and that the Red Devils could be using Sancho as a ‘smokescreen’ in order to move for Havertz instead.

Kai Havertz has been in equally stupendous form at Bayer Leverkusen over the last few seasons and has developed a reputation for being able to rack up goals from midfield.

Kai Havertz is tall and agile with an innate understanding of being in the right place at the right time. He is an adept dribbler and can play in various roles across the midfield.

Though one might struggle to find a place for him in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s current Man United set-up.

With the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba quite offensive players needing an anchor to keep the midfield stable, Kai Havertz would struggle to find a place in the midfield three.

While he could play on the wing, he is not as impactful in that role and paying £50 million for someone to play out of position would be a strange move in the current economic climate.
