As it stands, United have 42 major trophies to their name, while Arsenal (30) are 12 behind the Red Devils. It has been the alluring numbers that have had seen several switches from Arsenal to the red side of Manchester – Alexis Sanchez was the last and the latest amongst all.
The deal one did not go as planned, though. Before Sanchez’s arrival, It was Robin van Persie who had the Old Trafford crowd at his feet. And the list might see another switch of the same ilk in the near future – at least reports are stating so.
According to French outlet L’Equipe via Sportswitness, Arsenal star midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi could be heading towards Old Trafford this summer.
The 21-year-old has made 24 appearances this season for the Gunners, recoding two assists across the English top division.
A starter under Unai Emery, Guendouzi was enjoying his brightest days at Emirates as a box-to-box midfielder until the relationship between him and Arsenal’s newly-appointed coach Mikel Arteta got scattered into pieces following Guendouzi’s aggressive bust-up in a 2-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion – where he tried to grab the match-winner Neal Maupay’s throat somewhat violently.
The unfriendly scenario is believed to have left Mikel Arteta in utter astonishment, and he has reportedly informed Guendouzi that he is not in Arteta’s plans for next season, meaning the French midfielder is out of favour at Arsenal at this moment.
To add some more volume to the fact that Mikel Arteta doesn’t want an aggressive figure like Guendouzi anymore, the gaffer already signalled the board by omitting the midfield maestro from the matchday squad for the Southampton game – which Arsenal eventually won by 2-0 scoreline.
The report also suggests that Guendouzi, on the other hand, has told his agents he would like to play in a more ‘favourable environment’. And considering his intention to make France’s UEFA Euro squad next year, a summer move looks imminent.
Besides Manchester United, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan are keeping tabs on Guendouzi’s situation.
Manchester United have had struggled with lack of squad depth this season, especially in the midfield area. A player like Guendouzi could add some more strength and aggressiveness to the bench.
It is also worth mentioning that Arsenal would only part ways should they get €40m for the talented midfielder amidst the financial conundrum.
Would you take Guendouzi at Manchester United?
