Manchester United could be close to a new signing.

He is in the minds of every Manchester United fan. He has embedded his name into the Old Trafford faithfuls minds and is ingrained there as a perpetual presence. People dream of his arrival at Old Trafford. It is seen as the epitome of a successful transfer window and one which could define the Red Devils’ future for the ensuing decade.

Jadon Sancho is a supreme talent. He is regarded as one of the best in the world and a player who will become an apparent heir to the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi hegemony.

United fans have been accustomed to having players of his ilk in the Red Devils dressing room over the past few decades. Under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson it was customary to have three or four players of Sancho’s quality.

At the moment, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s squad is clearly devoid of such mercurial talent. As a result the Red Devils have lingered in mediocrity and in the shadows of their two arch rivals Liverpool and Man City.

Solskjaer will be desperate to change that, but no matter how perfect Sancho seems like for the club, in the current climate the England international might not be a feasible option.

Instead the Red Devils may be forced to look at alternative options. One of which could be the hugely exciting Federico Chiesa.

At just 22 years of age Federico Chiesa has already played well over a hundred games for his side, Fiorentina, and has 17 caps for his country. He is regarded as one of the best Italian prospects and a potential future star of the game.

Quick, agile and skilful, there are definitely shades of Sancho in Federico Chiesa’s style of play.

And according to a report by La Nazione via Sport Witness, United have ‘really knocked’ on Fiorentina’s door with an impressive offer for Federico Chiesa which was the closest to the Italian club’s valuation.

The report seems to suggest, United are front runners to sign the exciting Italian international with the offer expected to open even more concrete negotiations between the two clubs according La Nazione.

While Federico Chiesa might not be the name most United fans are crying out for, he would still be an astute addition, and of little risk in today’s financial market.
