Manchester United finally promote exciting academy graduate

Manchester United have promoted this star to the first team.

It has been a tradition which has traversed generations at Manchester United. The Red Devils adhere to it staunchly. It is entrenched into the club. It runs through the veins of all those who associate themselves with United.

The tradition of promoting youth from within is the strong core of the club. United have always been pioneers in the matter. Sir Matt Busby was the first to introduce a strong youth system in English football and his team would later be dubbed the ‘Busby babes’ due to their young age.

Sir Alex Ferguson continued the tradition when he revolutionised United’s academy and improved the extensive scouting network at the club. Ferguson did not shy away from giving youngsters a chance in the first team and he is credited with the development of the famous Class of 92 at Old Trafford which was made up by the likes of Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham. Those names have an indelible status at the club and will be forever remembered for their achievements.

Over the years, Ferguson’s promotion of youth persevered however upon his departure the core tradition of the club seemed to melt away. Especially under Jose Mourinho’s reign with the Portuguese valuing more established players and hardly giving youth a chance.

However, under Solskjaer youth has had a revival. A plethora of exciting young talents have blossomed into fine players already in Solskjaer’s short reign and watching young players making their mark has been a welcome sight.

Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have had breakout seasons and have established themselves as core parts of the United squad.

And it seems there could be another academy player who could soon follow suit of them.

Teden Mengi is an 18 year old centre-back. Not many will have heard of his name, however he is one of the most exciting prospects in the club’s academy at the moment. Currently the U18 captain, it seems Teden Mengi has been promoted to the first team squad.

A report by the Metro has made this assumption based on Teden Mengi having participated in first team training over the past week in preparation for the return of the Premier League.

A composed and stalwart defender, with United’s defensive problems earlier on in the year, Teden Mengi may well just get his chance. Do not be surprised if he catches the eye.
