Manchester United may have lost out on this transfer.

Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United almost a decade ago now. Yet his presence lingers. His legacy is still prominent and his achievements are indelible.

The Scotsman transformed the Red Devils. He fashioned the club into one of the greatest in the history of the sport. Ferguson is a legend and an icon. He will go down in history as the man who toppled the club’s arch rivals, Liverpool’s hegemony and conquered the newly formed Premier League year after year.

He is a born winner. A champion. Success runs in his veins and therefore it is no surprise that despite having left the club on official terms, Ferguson has remained in contact with the Red Devils to some capacity.

More from Red Devil Armada

For 16 year old Jude Bellingham who would only have been 9 years old when Ferguson left Man United, there might not be many memories of the legendary coach, but he would have undoubtedly heard the name and all the achievements.

Yet despite, having met Ferguson at United’s training complex in Carrington, it seems the current Birmingham City midfielder’s meeting with the club legend was not enough to lure him to Old Trafford.

According to head of SportBild Christian Falk speaking to United Report via the Daily Mail Jude Bellingham has ‘chosen’ Borussia Dortmund instead of the Red Devils as his next destination.

Of course with competition stiff for places and United planning to sign a plethora of more established midfielders such as Jack Grealish and Donny van de Beek you can hardly blame Bellingham for choosing Dortmund.

The German side are renowned for giving youth a platform to shine. Another Man United target Jadon Sancho established his name at Dortmund at a very young age and Bellingham will be hoping to follow suit of his fellow compatriot.

Losing out on the Birmingham City midfielder will be a blow to the Red Devils. Jude Bellingham is widely regarded as one of the most exciting midfield prospects in the country and he would have been an astute long term addition.

However, it is not one the club cannot recover from. While United seemed to be heavily in pursuit of Bellingham, the club’s priorities should lie elsewhere such as signing a prolific winger and a more proven midfielder.
