Manchester United and Mourinho have the same target.

He came and people fell at his feet. His pedigree was tremendous. He was the master of men. A true leader with a footballing IQ totalling infinity. Jose Mourinho was dubbed as the saviour of Manchester United. Finally the Red Devils would have a manager worthy of the position after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But Mourinho and Man United just never clicked. The Portuguese coach’s regressive tactics were not suitable for the club. While Mourinho did bring some trophies back to Old Trafford, the method with which he gained them did not elicit excitement from the fans.

And ultimately, the Portuguese would spiral the Red Devils towards a rapid decline in his final season which would be cut short with his sacking.

His departure was not greeted with sadness but rather relief.

Now Mourinho finds himself back in his comfort zone in London at Tottenham Hotspur.

And it seems the Portuguese coach could be about to become the club’s adversary in the transfer market.

According to German outlet FussballTransfers via Sport Witness, Man United and Tottenham are both ‘lurking’ in the shadows to pounce for Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian winger is currently on loan at Bayern Munich but the site claims that the German giants are reluctant to making Perisic’s move permanent which has opened up the possibility of either United or Tottenham making a move.

Mourinho will be desperate to reinforce a depleted Tottenham squad. However Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also looking to recruit fast paced wingers at United.

Ivan Perisic certainly fits into that category. The Croatian winger is a direct player with tremendous pace and great skill too. His frame is well suited to the Premier League and he has been linked with the Red Devils previously.

Of course Ivan Perisic would not be the marquee signing most fans are expecting and with the winger already 31 years of age, he doesn’t exactly fit into Solskjaer’s youthful and vibrant transfer policy. However, Perisic could still be a useful squad player at the club and someone who could make an impact from the bench. Someone in the same ilk as Shaqiri at rivals Liverpool or Mahrez at Manchester City.

If the Red Devils can secure his services on the cheap it should be a no brainer.
