The Manchester United boss has this view on transfers.

When he returned many batted eyelids. It wasn’t the glamorous replacement the Manchester United fans had yearned for. But it was meant to be a brief spell, a period which would last merely a few months at most.

Over a year and a half into his reign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has perpetually endured and having created a legendary legacy as a player, the Norwegian is trying to do the same as the boss.

Solskjaer is trying to rekindle the flames of old at United. Having played for the club for over a decade, he understands the core values of United. He knows what the fans want, the style of play they yearn for and the calibre of players they like to see at Old Trafford.

More from Red Devil Armada

Solskjaer has laid important foundations so far. He has emulated the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby by bedding in young talent into the first team such as Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams and Solskjaer will look to continue signing young players too.

The Norwegian is at Old Trafford for the long term. He is building his own legacy, and the fans are desperate for it to be a success.

An area where the Norwegian has improved compared to his predecessors, who all tried but failed to replace the void left behind by Sir Alex Ferguson, is the transfer market. Solskjaer has brought players astutely so far and many of his signings have been hugely successful at the club. Harry Maguire is now the Red Devils’ captain, meanwhile Bruno Fernandes has the making of a cult hero and has had a transformative impact since his arrival.

Even some of Solskjaer’s more questionable choices have worked dividends. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James have all done amicably well and Odion Ighalo is adored by the fans thanks to his quick start.

And speaking to the Shiv Nadar Foundation via Sky Sports, Solskjaer gave an update on his transfer policy ahead of the summer transfer window and the type of player he is looking for.

"“I did feel that I was professional and did feel privileged to play for Manchester United.I wouldn’t be able to look at myself if I didn’t know I’d given everything for my team-mates and my manager. That’s what I also now look for in players that we sign or we bring up from the youth team. You have to have a good personality and that you are professional because one rotten apple in the basket will make the others rotten.”"

That is an important sign for the fans. Solskjaer is not only looking at quality players but he is also targeting the right characters. Players who will not stir up the dressing room like some previous arrivals at Old Trafford.
