Manchester United met with the Barcelona target’s agent.

You can say all you want about Manchester United chief Ed Woodward, but the man is not one to sit around. Woodward is perpetually on the move, seeking out his latest targets, liaisoning with agents and trying to concoct the best plan for the Red Devils.

In an unprecedented climate, Woodward’s job, which is already under a tremendous amount of scrutiny, will be made even more arduous.

And while Ed Woodward will be the first to admit, he hasn’t always got things right at Old Trafford and regrettably missed out on some key targets in the past, he will be eager to amend his mistakes and herald a new dawn at Old Trafford.

An area where the club certainly needs reinforcement is upfront. Man United are short of attacking options with only two true out and out forward options at Solskjaer’s disposal.

Lautaro Martinez could be an ideal option to provide an antidote to Solskjaer’s woes. The Argentine is a fiery character on the pitch with great agility and fighting spirit. Martinez is a fighter, but he also has a deft touch and a low centre of gravity which enables him to deceive his opponents through clever feints and slalom past defences.

With Barcelona, desperate to find a long term Luis Suarez replacement and Lautaro Martinez basically a carbon copy of the Uruguayan, the Catalans seemed like the front runners for the Inter Milan forward.

However, Man United and Ed Woodward could be looking to hijack a potential move. According to Marca via the Daily Express, Ed Woodward has been ‘secretly’ working on a deal to bring Lautaro Martinez to Old Trafford and has even held a meeting with the player’s agent.

If Man United somehow manage to hijack Barcelona’s potential transfer not only could it significantly strengthen the Red Devils but also strike a blow to a European rival.

Man United and Barcelona shared a rivalry during the late 00s and early 10s when the two clubs competed with one another in the Champions League final several times.

Man United never managed to get the better of the Catalans in those finals but they could now.

And Lautaro Martinez has the potential to be a star at Old Trafford. He has all the makings of a cult favourite.
