Manchester United’s transfer could impact this Liverpool star.

The rivalry between the two sides is as intense as ever. On match-days, the fans flock to the stadium. The atmosphere is raucous. The pitch is like a cauldron. Blood boils surging through the veins of every player. Manchester United share a long standing hostility with Liverpool.

It is a rivalry steeped from tradition, dating back to centuries, way before football existed in the professional form it does now. The rivalry stems from two competing Northern port cities, who vested for power in a time when the ports were the only source of export in England.

Inevitably, the two rose in dominion as football formed in the North. In over a century both Man United and Liverpool have become gigantic brands worldwide. Millions of avid supporters watch them from across the globe and across different timelines.

More from Red Devil Armada

At first it was the Red Devils who came to power, under Matt Busby, then Bill Shankly heralded a Liverpool hegemony only for Sir Alex Ferguson to knock the Reds off their perch.

But since Ferguson’s departure from Old Trafford, Liverpool have slowly begun to rise from the shadows of their three decade limbo once more.

Led by the charismatic Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool look set to win their first Premier League title in thirty years, after winning the Champions League the year prior.

Liverpool’s success has been hard to watch for Red Devils supporters, however while they can’t hurt them on the pitch for now, Solskjaer could still strike a blow to Liverpool with his latest transfer deal.

Chris Smalling is currently on loan at Roma and the Italian outfit are desperate to recruit his services. However, according to Gazetta dello Sport via the Daily Express if Roma can’t sign Smalling they will go for Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren instead.

Jurgen Klopp looks keen to offload the Croatian who has fallen out of favour at Anfield and with the Red needing extra funds to raise money for incoming arrivals, Lovren’s departure could be a necessary one.

However, if Solskjaer lets Smalling depart for pastures new in Rome, the Liverpool boss might struggle to find another suitor for the Croatian centre-back.

It could be a small blow, but nonetheless a bitter one and Solskjaer could prove to be a thorn on Liverpool’s side.
