The Manchester United boss sees these stars wearing the famous number seven.

Its an ominous and lingering shadow which permeates around Old Trafford. It has haunted Manchester United for over a decade, hanging above the club like a cumbersome burden. No matter how fervently the Red Devils have tried to evade its overarching silhouette the club cannot seem to escape from its grasp.

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s absence has loomed over Man United for over a decade. The void which the Portuguese winger left behind is still yet to be filled and the yearning for someone of his ilk to fill the abyss has not been quenched.

Wearing the number seven shirt at Old Trafford, which so many Red Devils legends have donned before him, such as Beckham, Cantona and George Best, Ronaldo fought himself into United folklore by excelling in the revered shirt.

And while in the club’s history, the number seven has most often been worn by a player worthy to represent the number, since Ronaldo’s departure that has certainly not been the case.

The likes of Michael Owen, Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria as well as Memphis Depay have worn the number seven in Ronaldo absence to calamitous failure.

While the above mentioned stars might have made their name elsewhere, at United they flopped miserably.

There seems to be a curse on the shirt number at Old Trafford. It is a curse, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to break.

And in a report by the Daily Express, the outlet claims that the Norwegian has four candidates lined-up who could potentially wear the shirt in the future.

The quartet who the Daily Express has named are as follows: Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes and Hannibal Mejbri.

While the first three names seem like ideal candidates for the role, especially with Rashford possessing so many traits Ronaldo once had, the last name will be a surprising one even to avid United supporters.

Hannibal Mejbri is a young star in the club’s academy who likes to play as an attacking midfielder. Since his arrival at Old Trafford, there has been a lot of hype around Mejbri and the French midfielder is expected to make a breakthrough into the first team sooner rather than later.
