According to reports, Manchester United are on the verge of missing out on the midfield sensation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Amidst the current crisis, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming summer transfer window. And why not? A number of teams’ destiny depend on the outcomes.
The transfer market might not be as active as it has been over the last few years, but some big names are considering making huge moves to rejuvenate their teams.
Manchester United would be one of those sides looking to fill several positions from the summer transfer market.
Since Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford as the manager of the club, the Red Devils have seen departures of ten first-team players. Therefore, the club is currently in dire need of that much-needed squad-depth. The club needs to fill out the positions left vacant by those aforementioned departures as soon as possible.

English names such as Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish are believed to be the club’s top targets for the upcoming summer market, with club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer carrying out the project of building a team based on some experienced prodigies and some young talents.
Not only the forward-line and creative portion, but the club has also shown immense interest in adding a defensive midfielder to their roster. And reports suggest that Man United have kept an eye on Rennes’ youth sensation Eduardo Camavinga.
Besides Manchester United, Real Madrid are also interested in signing the defensive midfielder as they think the Frenchman could be a long-term replacement for Casemiro.
Since making the senior debut last season in Ligue 1, the 17-year-old maestro has made 43 appearances for Rennes, garnering 2 assists and 1 goals so far this season while maintaining a deep-defensive role in the midfield.
Touted as the next big thing in French football, Eduardo Camavinga has his contract with the French side till the year 2022. And keeping that in mind, the authorities of Stade Rennais have already indicated that they would not sell the midfield sensation this summer.
Speaking on an interview with RTL via Express Sport, Rennes president, Nicolas Holvec, confirmed that he can see Camavinga pursuing his future with the French side, saying:
"“The plan for Eduardo Camavinga is for him to carry on with his progression here at Renne, With great things expected from him next season.”"
Rennes head coach Julien Stéphan is also optimistic about Eduardo Camavinga’s stay amidst interest from several big clubs across Europe. He said:
"“I’d strongly advise him to stay with Rennes for one more season as this club is perfect for his development.”“And I believe he still has a few steps to make before making the leap to a big European side.“The Ligue 1’s side strong financial position is another reason for wanting to retain the teenager with the player himself stating that he plans to make a decision regarding his future when the current season finishes in Europe.”"
What turning their words into their belief is the fact that Rennes will play the Champions League football next season. Due to the early cancellation of Ligue 1, Rennes remained third on the table and hence secured a berth in the next season’s elite league.
Manchester United have been tracking the teenager for a while now, but now it seems as if making a deal for the Frenchman is near to impossible in the upcoming summer transfer window, considering the recent glory that the French club has tasted and the club authorities’ stances on the matter.
Who should Manchester United target this summer for the defensive midfield role if they miss out on Camavinga?
