According to the latest reports, Manchester United have made an important decision about the future of their two goalkeepers.

Goalkeepers are often described as the martyrs of football. Put a foot wrong, make the slightest miscalculation and you could be the cause of destruction on the fiery cauldron that is the pitch. Manchester United have been fortunate to have been blessed with some magnificent goalkeeping talent over the years. From Peter Schmeichel, to Edwin van de Sar and Fabian Barthez some of the best goalkeepers to have graced the sport have kept the Red Devils’ goals mostly impenetrable in the club’s recent history.

David de Gea‘s name is a name worthy to be in the same ilk as the previous names. When the Spaniard first arrived in England, his initial performances elicited only doom and gloom from the Stretford End.

But Sir Alex Ferguson had stuck with his gut and kept faith in de Gea which ultimately reaped its rewards. Over time, David de Gea has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and an outstanding stopper in the Premier League.

More from Red Devil Armada

His acrobatic antics have often kept the Red Devils afloat during a turbulent period. But the Spaniard’s status as an impenetrable wall is starting to fade quickly into oblivion.

This season, David de Gea has often made some horrifying errors whilst in between the sticks and it has led to a growing concern at Old Trafford.

Especially, with the Spaniard’s purported deputy, Dean Henderson having been so impressive whilst on loan.

At Sheffield United, Dean Henderson has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and the United graduate has been tipped to be a future candidate for the number one spot at senior international level for England.

Henderson evidently has the potential to replace David de Gea and it seems the Red Devils could soon be forced to make a tough decision.

Nonetheless, it seems that according to ESPN via the Daily Express the Red Devils will keep their faith in David de Gea ahead of next season and intend to keep the Spaniard as the ‘number one choice at Old Trafford.’

With de Gea’s recent track record, and Dean Henderson’s blistering form, that decision will be a mooted one and one that could haunt the Red Devils.

Only time will tell.
