According to a recent report, Manchester United may have their very own Fernando Torres and he is causing Ed Woodward major problems.

Fernando Torres was once the golden boy. The player even Manchester United fans begrudgingly admitted they loved to watch. He made football exciting. With his long blonde streaks whipping in the air, the Spanish El Nino tormented Premier League defences for a period of three years.

At the times, Torres was one of the best forwards in the world. When he left for Chelsea in a record £50 million transfer, it was to the delight of many Red Devils fans as Anfield wept.

However, the hefty price tag seemed to weigh on Fernando Torres’ shoulder. At Stamford Bridge, Torres was never the same. The passion he once had for football seemed to have been sucked out of him. Torres was a shadow of his former self.

Now, Manchester United are encountering an eerily similar scenario, according to a report by the Daily Express who claims that the Red Devils have their very own ‘Fernando Torres’ in the form of Alexis Sanchez.

Just like Torres, the Chilean was one of the best players in the Premier League. Alexis Sanchez was adored by Arsenal fans and regarded as their ‘golden boy.’

However, ultimately he was lured away from the Emirates by a lucrative proposal made by the Red Devils.

On paper the transfer promised so much more than it ultimately delivered. Just like Torres was at Chelsea, Alexis Sanchez has been a shadow of himself at Man United.

And now, Alexis Sanchez’s dip in form could cause Ed Woodward problems. According to the report by the Express, by deciding to give Sanchez extremely steep wages, Ed Woodward has made it ‘almost impossible’ for the club to offload the Chilean.

Especially in the current financial climate due to the suspension of the football which will sharply cut teams’ budgets this summer.

It means the Red Devils could be ‘stuck’ with their current flop for a considerable time and Sanchez’s presence could drain the club’s potential transfer budget.

Ed Woodward has a difficult choice to make, he must accept and cut his losses and hope Sanchez’s will be willing to lower his wages if a proposal does come in for his services.

The situation is not in United’s favour.
