Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s favourite transfer target and a player he knows closely has been tipped to sign for arch rivals, Liverpool.

Towards the end of December, there was only one man who was able to make Manchester United hearts titillate. His name was everywhere. Plastered across the media and tipped to become an imminent arrival at Old Trafford.

It was easy to fall for the cleverly spun stories and the alluring prospect. It all seemed so tangible.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the man to have given him his first start in professional football. Erling Braut Haland owed a lot to his former coach and now he could finally repay the faith at Old Trafford.

More from Red Devil Armada

The Norwegian forward was and still is one of the most talked about players in world football.

He has burst out of nowhere and has become an icon. Haland is Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo moulded into one. He is an heir to the Ballon D’or throne and his name will undoubtedly become indelible.

Having already struck well over 40 goals this season, those numbers are breathtaking, especially for a teenager.

If things had gone differently in the summer, Haland could have been celebrating some of those goals in a Manchester United shirt.

Of course, with Mino Raiola involved in the deal, the infamous super-agent tainted the negotiations and ultimately scuppered it for the Red Devils.

But Solskjaer does not seem to have given up on his pursuit. Numerous media reports claim that the Red Devils are still interested in making a move for Erling Braut Haland in the future. The Molde reunion still beckons, with Solskjaer clearly a huge admirer of the teenage sensation.

Perhaps Fabio Cappello’s recent words therefore, about how Haland would be an ideal signing for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool would have stung Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a little bit.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia via Standard Sport, Capello admitted that Haaland’s ‘pace, powerful frame and counter attacking ability’ would suit the Merseysiders.

Of course the same can be applied to the Red Devils. Solskjaer likes to deploy counter attacking football too, and in recent years United have probably utilised that tactic more often than Liverpool.

Capello’s comments should be taken with a pinch of salt therefore.
