Manchester United face major blow in pursuit of Jadon Sancho alternative
According to the newly-emerged reports, Manchester United could miss out on one of their top targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United have come short of filling the void left behind for the iconic winger position at Old Trafford. It is a position which once saw the dazzling feet of a plethora of Man United legends darting through thickets of defenders on the turf of the ‘Theatre of Dreams.’ From Denis Law to David Beckham and Ryan Giggs to the aforementioned Ronaldo.
When Ronaldo made his move to Real Madrid for a then-record transfer fee of £80m in 2009, few would have thought that it would take more than a decade or so to find a perfect replacement for the Portuguese superstar.
Over the years, the red side of Manchester has seen many superstars like Antonio Valencia, Ángel Di María, Memphis Depay, and Alexis Sanchez trying to prove their worth while playing on the wings. However, none of them came close to what the fans expected from them.

Since returning to Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has made many notable changes to the team. And those changes have truly made the fans think that the Norwegian could help Man United knock the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City ‘off their perch’ just like Sir Alex Ferguson had done before.
After strengthening the defence last summer with the signings of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Man United are expected to do the same with their offensive department this summer.
Although reports surrounding the club believe that United will go all out to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, a section of stories has claimed that the financial crisis owing to the current suspension of the football could pour cold water on United’s plans to sanction a summer move for Sancho.
Another winger who has been recently linked with a move to Man United is Federico Chiesa. Having scored 8 goals and 3 assists across all competitions this term, the 22-year-old versatile Fiorentina right-winger has showcased his authority for a side that currently sits 13th in the Serie A table with only 30 points from 26 games.
While Juventus, Inter Milan, PSG, Arsenal, and Chelsea are also expected to keeping tabs on the winger, Federico Chiesa’s recent comments on his future could make his possible suitors think about an alternative.
Speaking Corriere dello Sport as quoted by Football Italia, Federico Chiesa confirmed that he has no intention of leaving Fiorentina anytime soon, admitting he is not in negotiations with any clubs. Federico Chiesa said the follow:
"“There are no negotiations, there is Fiorentina”“I’ve spoken so much to the President, Joe Barone and Daniele Pradè over the last year, but I am concentrated only on the present. I focus on working every day, achieving immediate objectives, first and foremost securing safety. We just hope to get back to playing and the rest will follow.”"
It looks like Man United will have to focus their attention elsewhere.
With Sancho deal possibly looking very unlikely as a consequence of the current crisis and Federico Chiesa looking likely to stay at Fiorentina, who would you consider signing instead of Jadon Sancho?
