When you think of a calendar season, as a Manchester United fan there is one fixture which always stands out from the rest. The games against Liverpool always have that extra impetus. They give an extra source of pleasure too when the Red Devils manage to secure victory.

Matt Busby was the first to secure the Red Devils’ hegemony but ultimately Bill Shankly would topple it with Liverpool. It would take almost thirty years for United to come back, but Sir Alex Ferguson managed to wake the giant from its slumber and knock Liverpool ‘off their perch’ upon his arrival at Old Trafford.
Now a new hegemony is forming in Merseyside with Jurgen Klopp rekindling the days of old at Anfield.
It is a hegemony which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to put a stop to.
As a player, the Norwegian is used to the Red Devils winning one trophy after another. As a manager he has been embroiled in a difficult situation at Old Trafford.

United have started to play football which is reminiscent of the old. It is explosive and free-flowing just like Sir Alex Ferguson’s.
The Scotsman however did not just succeed on the pitch, he was often the source of his rivals’ woes off the pitch too beating them to key signings.
Since Ferguson’s departure, United have lost their pulling power, but Solskjaer could be about to emulate his former boss if reports are to be believed.
According to Head of Football at German outlet Bild via Twitter, Man United are among the clubs trying to sign Timo Werner of RB Leipzig ahead of Liverpool.
Timo Werner has been heavily linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side but recently the Reds have looked unlikely to sign him. If Solskjaer can convince Timo Werner to come to Old Trafford he would deal a bitter blow to Liverpool and begin the destruction of their hegemony.
