Manchester United have tried to replace Wayne Rooney for years since his departure and it seems they have finally found the perfect candidate.

When a fresh faced Wayne Rooney signed on the dotted line and confirmed his arrival at Manchester United, few would have thought his venture would turn out as successful as it ultimately did.

However, even in the early days there were small glimmers that the fresh faced teenager was destined for something special at Old Trafford.

His hat-trick in the Champions League on his first start, and Rooney’s ability to find the back of the net even in cameos made him a formidable prospect.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was team-mates with the then teenager during Rooney’s fledgling Man United career.

More from Red Devil Armada

The Norwegian would have witnessed first hand the emergence of the Red Devils’ legend. As a fellow striker he would have helped to hone Rooney’s skills and he must have given the teenager some valuable advice.

It seems, Solskjaer could be witnessing yet another surge to stardom. This time however, the Norwegian is in more direct control of this emerging star.

Unlike Wayne Rooney, Mason Greenwood begun his career at Man United, however just like the former United captain, Greenwood has developed a reputation for scoring goals on a regular basis as a mere teenager.

At the start of the season, not many would have been familiar with Greenwood’s name, but now the teenager is one of the major talking points in the Stretford End.

The 18 year old has always had a solid record at youth level, however often that does not translate to first team football. Think of the likes of Federico Macheda or James Wilson.

Mason Greenwood probably won’t end up in the same category as the above mentioned players, it is more likely his name will be alongside Rooney’s in the club’s illustrious history.

At just 18 years of age, Mason Greenwood has already scored 12 goals in his first season at United. At a similar age Wayne Rooney scored just 8 goals in his first season of senior football.

Already there are talk of England calling Mason Greenwood up to the senior squad which would make him debut at around the same age as Rooney.

It is clear Mason Greenwood has a huge career ahead of him, and the Red Devils have probably found their man to replace Wayne Rooney.

Next. Man United will beat Liverpool to the signing of this star. dark
