According to the latest reports, the Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has made a key transfer promise ahead of the summer transfer window.

The summer transfer window is often a tumultuous time for Manchester United fans. In the past under the leadership of the club’s chief Ed Woodward the Red Devils have suffered some major disappointment.

Woodward’s negotiation techniques have often faltered and United have ended up signing flops or missing out on key targets.

The transfers of Alexis Sanchez and Angel Di Maria are prime examples of flop signings, meanwhile missing out on Erling Braut Haland after letting Romelu Lukaku depart last summer was also a fatal error.

Yet things are changing at Old Trafford. Ed Woodward finally managed to pull off a masterstroke when he lured Bruno Fernandes to the club and the Portuguese’s arrival looks to have transformed the team.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is finally building a positive philosophy at Old Trafford. Just like the Norwegian’s successful predecessors, Solskjaer is bringing through youth and building a team with one eye on the future.

The buzz around the team and the ground is growing. Fans are finally seeing vestiges of the glory days seep back into the club.

From the style of play to the characters, United appear to be on the brink of rising from the ashes. The giant has been roused.

Even Ed Woodward has been receiving some plaudits despite coming under fire earlier in the year.

Which is why it was a huge surprise when the United chief seemed to cast doubts about the club’s potential transfer dealings in the summer transfer window as a consequence of the current situation.

With United purported to have wanted to spend big prior to the suspension of the football and players such as Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho and Kalidou Koulibaly being linked with potential moves to Old Trafford, the fans were hugely anticipating the summer.

And it seems Ed Woodward has given hope that the ambitious arrivals might still yet come to Old Trafford in the summer.

The United chief has said the following via Manchester Evening News:

"“Clearly it’s true we are fortunate to be in a strong financial position compared to many clubs, but we are not immune from the financial impact of what this virus is doing. I would say that once we have that visibility of a path through the crisis and coming out of the other side to relative normality then, of course, we aim to remain highly competitive in the market.”"

Woodward’s comments at the end will definitely be what the fans have wanted to hear. It’ll give more hope of United completing a deal for the hotly coveted Jadon Sancho.
