The signing of Bruno Fernandes has lifted Manchester United both on and off the pitch. He could help bring more of Europe’s elite to the Theatre of Dreams.
2019/20 has been a rocky season for the Red Devils, the first four months of the season being absolutely shocking, but one signing has lifted Manchester United in every aspect. That man being Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
Manchester United had been reportedly keen on signing the prized Portuguesa in the summer prior, with many news outlets in Lisbon claiming a deal was done on many occasions. One report even going as far as saying that he was flying out to Manchester for a medical. These talks all proved to be wrong and the play-maker remained a Sporting Lisbon player.
Until January, a teasing window for United fans, with the saga concluding just three days before the end of the transfer window. An initial fee of €55 million with a potential €25 million in add ons. A bargain in todays market for a player of his quality.

Bruno hit the ground running in Manchester, claiming the man of the match award on his debut vs Wolves. Before going on to bag two goals and three assists in his next 4 games in the League, securing him the Premier League player of the month award for February. United had been lacking a no. 10 of his quality for years and his impact shows how important the position is.
Not only had Bruno been perfect on the pitch, he was also showing his class off the pitch saying all the right things and showing the signs of a winning mentality. Like he had at Sporting. He’s always been a fiery player and has shown glimpses of this side of him, shushing Pep Guardiola during United’s 2-0 win over City in the league. A temperament that United have missed for years.
Bruno’s signing has lifted everyone at United, since his arrival United haven’t lost a game and there has been a wave of positivity around the club. His arrival has also been a plus for United’s transfer strategy, the top players that United are linked to such as Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, will have more desire to play for a club that has top players already among the ranks.
As well as brining in new acquisitions, Bruno’s signing may turn around the faith of the current squad. Paul Pogba who was almost certainly going to be leaving United, now looks set to sign a new deal with the club. A partnership of Pogba and Bruno in midfield could be one of the fiercest in Europe. Combining this with the fire power of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford and United could be a dominant force once again.
Pogba staying is still not 100%, but is looking increasingly likely and if United do sign Jadon Sancho it will increase the chance of him renewing even more. The future looks bright for United and we all can’t wait for football to restart once it is safe to do so.
