Manchester United: Woodward looks set to miss out on another key target
By Bence Bocsak
According to the latest reports, Manchester United chief Ed Woodward could be set to lose yet another key target ahead of the summer transfer window.
In January it was just a hair width away. Sweat must have drooped from Ed Woodward’s forehead as the negotiations stretched on for days on end between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon. The Red Devils chief’s strong and adamant negotiations skills did not buckle. In the end United ended up getting their man as Bruno Fernandes signed on the dotted line to become the club’s new number 18.
Woodward must have sighed with relief. It had been a tumultuous time for the club’s chief. The Red Devils had missed out on several key targets prior to Bruno Fernandes’ arrival and Woodward was heavily criticised in the media and fans alike.
His inability to attract Erling Braut Haland to the club or to sign an adequate replacement for Romelu Lukaku had made things difficult.

Add to that, the apparent muddled wage structure at the club with the Red Devils paying hefty wages to squad players who do not seem to merit it has also made Woodward come under fire.
The United chief is not the most popular man in Manchester right now. And while he may have succeeded with purchasing Bruno Fernandes he will need to have a fruitful summer window in order to redeem his status.
However according to the latest reports, Woodward might have already scuppered his chances.
According to the Evening Standard via the Daily Express, Ed Woodward’s recent comments about how it is unlikely clubs will be able to spend ‘hundreds of millions of pounds’ on player in the summer transfer window is a ‘ploy’ to convince Borussia Dortmund to lower their asking price for the Red Devils’ top target Jadon Sancho. And the Daily Express claims that this could merely be a boost for Chelsea who are also looking to sign Sancho and could be a fatal move by Woodward.
Jadon Sancho is regarded as one of the most promising footballers in the world. The English international looks perfectly suited to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explosive counter attacking style of play.
Jadon Sancho is everything the Red Devils crave. He could be the long awaited heir to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s throne at Old Trafford.
However, with Ed Woodward’s track record United should not get their hopes up.
Do you think Ed Woodward’s ploy will work or will United miss out on Jadon Sancho?
