According to the latest reports, Manchester United will be releasing these two young stars from the club in the summer transfer window.

As a young footballer you dread to hear the news. Year after year, you hope your contract will be renewed in the fierce and competitive world. You dream of playing for your beloved club. You dream of making it pro. Most often however, those dreams are ultimately shattered. It’s a cruel and harsh world. Even at a club like Manchester United who focus extensively on promoting youth players, most of the club’s academy talent never make it.

Unfortunately according to the latest reports, two of the club’s young talents in Demetri Mitchell and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson will have to face the harsh reality.

Manchester Evening News reports that the pair of them will be released by the Red Devils in the summer.

Both Borthwick-Jackson and Mitchell have made first team appearances for the club.

The 23 year old Demetri Mitchell represented England at every level up until the U20s. He is an impressive and versatile player in the club’s academy who could play as a left back or a winger and made a single appearance for the club. That came against Crystal Palace in the Premier League in a game which Mitchell started.

Following that appearance, Mitchell was loaned out on two separate stints at Hearts of Midlothian in Scotland.

Meanwhile Borthwick-Jackson featured more regularly for the Red Devils’ first team. During the 2015/16 season, Borthwick-Jackson was regarded as an exciting up and coming defender. He was just 18 years old at the time and made 10 appearances in the Premier League and 14 in all competitions for the club.

Yet, unfortunately for the left-back he never managed to kick on following that impressive debut season.

Unsuccessful loan spells at Wolverhampton and Leeds in the Championship as well as Scunthorpe and Tranmere Rovers in League One where the youngster struggled for regular game time has diminished his status at the club.

With both Mitchell and Borthwick-Jackson now 23 years of age, their status as academy prospects has vanished. The pair of them will be hoping to find teams where they will be able to play regular football.

Undoubtedly United fans will be wishing them the best and will hope to see them flourish in the future.
