According to the latest reports, Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has delivered a shock message to Solskjaer about the future of his star player.

For weeks they waited. For weeks he was in a limbo. Amidst the jumbled mess there was only one certainty. He knew he had to leave. The two ancient rivals vying for his services wrestled viciously. They were determined. Eager to conquer the other. In the end however, it would be Manchester United who came out victorious.

At the time, Ed Woodward loosened his tie, smiled inside the Manchester United boardroom and patted himself on the back.

The move had the potential to become one of the greatest in Premier League history. Perhaps even surpassing the Red Devils’ previous achievement when they lured Robin van Persie to Old Trafford.

More from Red Devil Armada

Alexis Sanchez after all had everything. The Chilean who honed his skills in Barcelona and became a star at Arsenal, was the leading star of the Premier League.

His supple legs could dart past the fiercest defences. His thick thighs had the power to unleash thunderous strikes on the opposition’s goal. Most often they would thump into the back of the net too.

Everyone thought it. The notion often comes to mind when someone is given the fated number seven shirt at United. But this time people voiced their opinions too. The fans and the media were adamant Alexis Sanchez would be the man to make the Red Devils forget about that Portuguese winger who once left the club for Real Madrid.

Alas, in a turn of dramatic irony, Alexis Sanchez would forget how to play when he arrived at Old Trafford. His spell with the Red Devils has been nothing short of disappointing so far.

When the Chilean arrived at the club, no one thought that merely a year later, the Jose Mourinho reign at Old Trafford would come to an end.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had nothing to do with Alexis Sanchez’s transfer but it is a burden the new United coach has had to put up with.

And if reports are to be believed, the Norwegian might have to put up with Sanchez for even longer.

According to ESPN via the Daily Express, Ed Woodward has told Solskjaer he might be forced to find a place for Sanchez in the team next season with the Red Devils unlikely to be able to offload him.

That will be a shock for the Norwegian and one he must come to terms with.
