Manchester United have been linked with a move for Harry Kane in the summer transfer window but it would be a huge mistake to sign him.

There is no doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is famishing for a centre forward at Manchester United. The former cult hero of the Stretford End is remembered fondly for his goalscoring prowess at Old Trafford. His current Red Devils side are however devoid of a clinical marksman.

It’s the irony of Solskjaer reign at the club, and one he will be desperate to address in the summer transfer window.

Especially after coming mightily close to luring his fellow compatriot and teenage sensation Erling Braut Haland to United. However the goal-machine, Haland decided to opt for Borussia Dortmund instead and it left Solskjaer and co scrambling.

Their alternative Ighalo has been an astute signing. It is clear however, that the Nigerian will not be a long term option at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer needs someone with proven quality. Someone who has a pedigree for scoring goals.

Harry Kane might be a tempting option for the Norwegian. Especially now that the striker has hinted he is prepared to depart Tottenham.

The English forward after all is one of the most accomplished and prolific strikers in world football. He is the World Cup top goalscorer.

Yet Solskjaer should not succumb to the temptation of Kane.

Regardless of Kane’s availability, Daniel Levy is a staunch figure at the helm of the Tottenham board. He will demand a hefty fee for his star man, a fee that has been purported to be around £200 million. It will be a hard bargain and one that will not be worthwhile for United.

Yes Kane would undoubtedly score goals at Old Trafford, but he is not the pacy forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for.

Harry Kane will turn 27 in the summer and one will have to wonder how many years he has left at the top.

There are younger, cheaper and more suitable forwards Solskjaer could buy in the market. The likes of Moussa Dembele or Victor Osimhen for example.

Meanwhile, the hefty fee saved on Harry Kane’s transfer could be spent on Jadon Sancho who is expected to be a leading star in the upcoming decade.
