Manchester United’s latest signing and already cult favourite, Bruno Fernandes has made an important claim about Paul Pogba in a recent interview.

In January it was close. For a few days Manchester United seemed like they were not going to pull through. Negotiations were strenuous with Sporting Lisbon. The Portugal side had made Ed Woodward sweat. However ultimately Woodward’s resilience paid off.

And a few days later Bruno Fernandes finally arrived at Old Trafford much to the glee of the United faithful.

The former Sporting Lisbon captain was regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe. His numbers at Sporting made United supporters marvel.

More from Red Devil Armada

The fee had been high, but there was no doubt it would not be justified. Solskjaer had desperately needed a midfielder, especially with the absence of Paul Pogba due to injury. For weeks, the Red Devils’ midfield had been ran rugged and United were suffering from a major poor run of form.

Bruno Fernandes was everything the club were crying out for and he made an instant impact.

The Portuguese has fulfilled the role of creator to distinction. He has unlocked defences with ease, threading balls through to United’s attack like a knife through butter.

United with him in the side have looked explosive going forward.

The Portuguese has even erased the lingering yearning for Paul Pogba to return from injury.

Regardless of his fine form however, Bruno Fernandes himself has not forgotten about his new teammate.

In an interview with the club’s official website via the Guardian, Bruno Fernandes revealed that he believes, the Red Devils’ ‘patchy form’ has been the reason for Pogba’s lack of consistency over the last couple of seasons.

In the interview, Bruno Fernandes made a surprising comparison with Pogba to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, by claiming that Pogba is expected to meet the same ‘standard’ as the two world-super stars.

The comment might be a bit jarring, but in some ways, Fernandes’ claim isn’t that unfounded. After all, Pogba is one of the most expensive midfielders in the world and he is often put on a pedestal.

What is nice to see, is Fernandes’ admiration and sympathy for his team-mate. One thing for sure, even if Fernandes and Pogba’s partnership is short-lived, we can’t wait to see it when the football returns.
