Current loanee, Odion Ighalo, has sent an important message to the club about this Manchester United transfer target ahead of the summer transfer window.

When Odion Ighalo grinned in front of a photographer and put pen to paper in the late hours of the January transfer deadline day, he made history. By signing for Manchester United he became the first Nigerian player to represent the club.

Nigeria have produced some of the best players from the continent of Africa over the years. Their national side has always been successful on the international front. Their Olympic victory in 1996 remains indelible to many.

In the past legends like Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West and John Obi-Mikel have donned the famous Super Eagles shirt.

The current crop is an impressive list of names too. It includes the likes of Wilfried Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Therefore it is a surprise that until the arrival of Odion Ighalo no Nigerian had donned the famous Red Devils crest.

But alas, Odion Ighalo made history and he has made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford.

Having netted in every single start he has made for the club, Odion Ighalo is slowly starting to become a cult favourite.

United are popular in Nigeria and to many people back home Ighalo offers inspiration. It seems that soon the Red Devils could have another Nigeria star at the club.

Victor Osimhen is a World champion. In 2015, the forward was part of the Nigerian squad which lifted the U17 World Cup. Osimhen won the golden boot award and he has been considered as hot property ever since.

His performances ultimately earned him a move to Wolfsburg in Germany, however he struggled to break into the club’s first team. Wolfsburg were going through a turbulent time with perpetually changing managers.

An extremely impressive loan spell later in Belgium, Victor Osimhen signed for Lille last summer and he hasn’t looked back since. Osimhen has scored 18 goals already this season.

That form has piqued the interest of United according to some reports.

And current United star, Odion Ighalo certainly seems like he’d welcome Victor Osimhen’s arrival at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Elegbete TV via the Metro, Ighalo revealed that he considers Victor Osimhen ‘ the future of Nigerian football’ and he tipped him to break ‘many records’ during his career.

Ighalo is not wrong. At just 21 years of age, Victor Osimhen is a hugely exciting prospect. His pace, towering figure and excellent finishing makes him a huge threat upfront.

He could be the perfect match for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s counter attacking style of play.
