Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must fix these areas at Manchester United if he is serious about getting the Red Devils back to where they belong.

Manchester United were once on the pinnacle of the football world. Year after year under the steady guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson they would compete for the Premier League title and most years they would lift the trophy aloft come May.

The memories of that golden age now linger in the minds of many at Old Trafford. They seem all too distant and intangible. There is now a mythic element which seems to enshroud Alex Ferguson’s era at the club.

However Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to erase memories of the past. The Norwegian wants to create his own dynasty at Old Trafford. One which will lead United back to the apex of the footballing world.

More from Red Devil Armada

In order to accomplish his ambition, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to fix several areas within the squad.

Here’s what he must do.

1. Find an adequate centre-back partner for Harry Maguire

The Red Devils have looked shaky in defence this season. Whilst Harry Maguire has been a sturdy presence, his partners have often lacked the quality to keep up with the United captain. As a result United have conceded some avoidable goals.

In the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must find a player who will be able to provide the stability the Red Devils need.

Someone who is better than the current options at Old Trafford. The likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Matthijs de Ligt have been linked so far. But even the return of Chris Smalling who has excelled at Roma could be enough.

2. Sign a box to box midfielder

Whether or not Paul Pogba is on his way out of Old Trafford this summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still needs quality player to keep things ticking in the midfield.

Bruno Fernandes is a great creative outlet, but Solskjaer needs an engine to compliment the Portuguese. Someone who can dictate the midfield and pester the opposition.

The likes of Saul Niguez and Donny van de Beek would be ideal additions and both have been linked tentatively with a move to Old Trafford.

3. Bring in a world-class forward

Yes, Manchester United have Odion Ighalo, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood. But ask yourself which one can score thirty goals a season on a regular basis? Two of the quartet prefer to play on the flanks and Ighalo is in his thirties meanwhile Greenwood is too young to be relied on.

The likes of Sancho, Kane and Dembele have been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Either one of the first two names would do.

Next. Cristiano Ronaldo could be the reason this United star leaves. dark
