According to the latest reports Manchester United are looking increasingly likely to sign this world-class Atletico Madrid star in the summer.

Manchester United need a midfielder. Yes, they have signed Bruno Fernandes in January. Yes Paul Pogba might stay. But the Red Devils still need another midfielder.

The midfield is an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s system at Old Trafford. It is the gears which keeps the team running and the engine that gives life to the explosive counter-attacking style of play.

Yet at the moment, the Norwegian is lacking in the department.

He needs someone who is capable of real fluid technical play. Someone with guile who can carry the ball forward with ease, but at the same time also have the skill to contribute to the defence.

Playing in offensive roles in a well-drilled Atletico Madrid side, Saul Niguez could be the perfect candidate to do exactly just that.

And if the latest reports are to be believed, United could be closing in on a move for the Spanish international.

According to the Daily Star, the Red Devils are growing ‘increasingly confident’ of landing a move for Saul Niguez in the summer.

With the Red Devils desperate to get back to the top. The club’s owners, the Glazers, are prepared to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a hefty budget for the transfer window.

It will mean, the club will have more than sufficient funds to wrap a deal up for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.

Saul Niguez demonstrated just how good he is in the Champions League last month with some peerless performances against Liverpool, helping Atletico Madrid knock out the holders in the process.

And the Daily Star claims United had scouts watching in the stands and they were impressed with what they saw.

At United, Solskjaer’s midfield three has been strengthened by the addition of Bruno Fernandes, but there are concerns about the quality of Fred and many of the other midfield deputies could be departing in the summer also, such as Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira.

It’s why Saul Niguez’s move to Old Trafford is so necessary.

Of course, much of the move will hinge on the Red Devils making the top four this season in order to ensure Champions League football for next season.
