There was always that sense of ‘specialness’ when Marcus Rashford emerged on the scene. His debut goal in United colours merited an abundance of early hype.
And while his journey since then has been rocky, Rashford’s ability never came into question. The English international oozes flair. He can bamboozle defenders with clever tricks and his pace is tough to handle for any player in the world football.
What Rashford has often lacked is decision making and consistency.
However this season the superstar has managed to correct those errors in his game.
Before his untimely injury, Marcus Rashford managed to find the back of the net 19 times.
But it hasn’t just been the goals which have been impressive this season. Following the departure of talisman Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford took the baton at United and established himself as the linchpin of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side. He often changed games single handedly and was heavily relied on.
His performances were reminiscent at times of Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo. Marcus Rashford has proven that one day he can be as good as the pair.
And it’s a sentiment that United legend, Paul Scholes, seems to echo.
Speaking about Rashford to BBC Radio via ESPN in 2017, Paul Scholes said the following:
"“You look at Cristiano Ronaldo’s record and players like Neymar, he has that kind of ability. It is a lot to live up to, but he has that in him — he can be a world star.”"
The words are high praise from a United legend who was adored at Old Trafford and won a hoard of trophies.
Marcus Rashford’s frightening pace, his strength and his ability to combine that with clever tricks makes him a unique player. He has a lot to live up to, but if anyone can do it, it’s Marcus Rashford.
Do you agree with Paul Scholes’ comments?
