Manchester United in battle with Manchester City for young star

According to the latest reports Manchester United are in a fight with their arch rivals, Manchester City, in order to sign the exciting Croatian defender.
Manchester United have often prided themselves on their ability to defend. The club have had some solid centre-back partnerships over the years, especially under Sir Alex Ferguson. The likes of Bruce and Pallister or Ferdinand and Vidic spring to mind.
It is a tradition which is vital to the success of any team.
And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who spent over a decade as a player under Ferguson will be well aware of the fact.

Since the Norwegian has been at the helm at United, Solskjaer has not been able to establish a solid defence.
There is a void in the Red Devils’ backline.
Whilst the addition of Harry Maguire has been an astute one and the current United captain is clearly an accomplished defender, he has lacked a partner who is of the same ilk.
The likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly as well as Phil Jones have failed to make a mark during the past season.
Despite the valiant attempts of Maguire, United’s defence has often been leaky and have let in unnecessary goals.
It is an area that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to fix in the summer in order to ensure he has equipped his squad with the best chances of competing for the title.
One of the teams United will want to compete against is Manchester City. The Red Devils have lived in the shadows of their neighbours for far too long.
And as United look to bolster their squad, it seems the defender who they have identified as Harry Maguire’s partner is also being targeted by Pep Guardiola‘s side.
According to 90min.com both United and Manchester City are ‘keeping tabs’ on 23 year old Croatian and Marseille centre back Duje Caleta-Car.
The centre-back has been immense at the back for Marseille this season who are currently second in Ligue One behind Paris Saint Germain.
A tall and powerful centre back, Duje Caleta-Car is composed on the ball and has all the traits to go very far in the game.
He certainly seems like an ideal fit for Harry Maguire, however, the Red Devils will be tested in their pursuit if Guardiola is also sniffing about.
