Now with the news breaking about Premier League players and several other footballs across the continent contracting the coronavirus a new update has been issued by the Premier League.

The virus has so far been contracted by the likes of Mikel Arteta, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Daniele Rugani of Juventus as well as former Southampton forward Manolo Gabbiadini.

And in response to the widespread impact, the Premier League announced today that it would be suspending all its fixtures until the 3rd April in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the players and the supporters.

In response to the changes imposed by the Premier League, the club’s chief Ed Woodward has made his statement on United’s official website.

Ed Woodward had the following remarks to make:

"“While it is disappointing to see the season paused, we recognise there are bigger considerations as part of the need to help slow the spread of coronavirus.”"

The statement surely echoes the sentiments of many United fans across the globe.

At times like this football becomes less important and the safety and wellbeing of our fellow human beings becomes the priority for everyone.

United’s second leg fixture against LASK at Old Trafford has also been indefinitely postponed by UEFA due to the coronavirus.

In addition to Ed Woodward’s statement, the club’s coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also had some reassuring words to give to the supporters.

The Norwegian manager said:

"“I would like to thank our fans for their tremendous support so far this season and we look forward to welcoming them back to Old Trafford as soon as is safely possible.”"

For many fans around the world, football and United gives them a tremendous sense of escape and joy.

In times like this that sort of escapism and joy becomes even more important.

We can only hope the situation gets better and United can return back to action as soon as possible.
