By Bence Bocsak
Manchester United have had a topsy-turvy campaign this season with plenty of players impressing and disappointing. Here are the club’s top five performers.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer commenced the season on an incredibly bright note with Manchester United securing an impressive 4-0 victory over Chelsea.
The performance of the Red Devils was flawless and it elicited a whole array of excitement ahead of the season. However unfortunately much of that excitement dwindled as Solskjaer struggled with a mounting injury crisis and United failed to maintain a consistent run of form.
The season saw a vast amount of disappointing performances and losses to arch rivals and inferior sides who the club should have beaten.
Often times, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job came under scrutiny. And many had lost all hope of the club ever being able to fight their way back to the top.
January has however seemed to have had a turning point in United’s campaign and with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo the club look poised to fight themselves back into the Champions League next season.
Throughout the campaign there have been plenty of players who have stood out. Here are the top five performers of United’s season.
5. Harry Maguire
Appearances: 41
Goals: 2
Many were dubious about the arrival of Harry Maguire in the summer. The England fan favourite was clearly a talented defender, but the hefty fee United paid for his services still cast some doubt over the transfer.
It is fair to say over six months into his time at Old Trafford, Harry Maguire has proven he was worth every penny.
The England international has definitely helped in strengthening the club’s often shaky defence and his composure on the ball has proved vital.
He has made such a huge influence on the team that he was named club captain in January following Ashley Young‘s departure to Inter Milan.
Maguire has proven he has the potential to become a pivotal part of United’s future and a club legend.
