The Manchester United chief has made an important declaration about the current future of the Red Devils and his ambitions for the club.

Ed Woodward’s position at Manchester United has been precarious over the last few years. In fact, from a certain section of Red Devils supporters, the United chief has elicited a tremendous amount of hostility.

The criticism towards Ed Woodward is undoubtedly just. Woodward who comes from a banking background has failed to live up to the mighty expectations at Old Trafford.

Often his negotiation skills have purportedly jeopardised potential United transfers.

More from Red Devil Armada

The club in terms of the boardroom is undoubtedly in disarray.

When you consider the disproportionate wage structure and how United’s financial status is dwindling around the world, a lot of it will be of great concern to ardent Red Devils fans.

However, Ed Woodward is convinced the club is heading in the right direction. The United chief made some important and reassuring comments recently about the way he envisions the future for the club.

Speaking to investors via the Daily Mail the United chief has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and revealed how the ‘foundations’ have been laid at Old Trafford ‘for long term success.’

Ed Woodward has also declared that the ‘number one priority’ is ‘winning trophies’ at the club which is exactly what the supporters want to hear.

And he has promised ‘a planned, disciplined approach’ to the summer transfer window.

So far with Ed Woodward’s history many United fans will be reticent to believe these words and only action will convince them to place their trust in the club’s chief yet again.

Time will tell whether Ed Woodward’s words prove to be prothetic.

However the United chief’s comments are important on another level.

It is clear that the Red Devils see their future with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and after an impressive month that will be reassuring to hear.

It seems the vestiges of Solskjaer’s vision are finally coming into the spotlight.

And that vision certainly seems like the United of old. The attacking football demonstrated against Manchester City in the derby over the weekend was reminiscent of a perfect performance under Sir Alex Ferguson.

United fans will be eager to see more.
