Manchester United have made a shocking demand for a player who has previously been dubbed as the ‘best defender’ at the club.

Whether you’d like to admit it or not, for the first time this season Manchester United are finally not absolutely drab on the eyes. The Red Devils are playing free-flowing attacking style of football at last under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Of course, United still lack plenty of ammunition in the squad, but it seems the Norwegian’s vision is finally coming alive, and the board’s patience in Solskjaer has paid dividends.

The United fans will hope they can close the chapter on the abysmal December and January form and kick on in the spring in order to reach the coveted top four spot in the Premier League and continue the club’s run in the Europa League.

It will be a hard task, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can do it.

Though despite their success, the Red Devils will undoubtedly have to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to snip away the deadwood from Carrington and secure some big signings at Old Trafford.

That will mean investing a hefty amount of money in the transfer market in order to purchase the likes of Jadon Sancho, Kalidou Koulibaly and Harry Kane who have all been linked with the Red Devils.

And if the club are to spend that big, United might be forced to sell some of their more luxurious players in the squad.

Chris Smalling, who is currently on loan at AS Roman, might be one of them as it seems the Red Devils will be willing to let him go.

Recently the United centre back was dubbed by Rio Ferdinand as ‘the best defender at the club’ after impressing in the Serie A for AS Roma.

However that still doesn’t excuse the hefty price-tag United have heaped on Chris Smalling’s shoulders.

According to the Metro via the Daily Mail, the Red Devils want a shocking £25 million for their ageing defender.

The report claims that the Italian side were hoping to sign Chris Smalling for far less than that.

United’s asking price could deter suitors and risk the club not getting the funds to qualify for financial fair play.
