Manchester United set to make shocking summer move

According to the latest reports Manchester United could be on the verge of making a surprising move in the upcoming summer transfer window.

When you consider Manchester United’s transfer business in the past few years it is fair to say the Red Devils have mostly disappointed the fans rather than please them.

Last summer saw an especially shambolic sequence of events in which United sold their star forward Romelu Lukaku and allowed the likes of Ander Herrera to depart without properly replacing them.

That of course left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s squad lacking in squad depth and the club’s subsequent injury crisis this season impacted the Norwegian boss more severely than it might have had things turned out differently in the summer.

In the January transfer window, for a long time it seemed like United were set to continue their trend of ineptitude. The Red Devils missed out on Erling Braut Haland and they were close to not signing Bruno Fernandes before eventually landing the Portuguese midfielder.

If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are serious about returning the club back to where they belong, the pair of them must ensure there will be no repeat of last summer.

This summer, United must focus on getting rid of fringe players and bolstering the squad with a plethora of additions in order to ensure they are the best equipped for the season ahead.

However, those hoping for such rational actions, might be disappointed by the latest reports.

According to Goal via the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are considering selling one of their key players, David de Gea in the summer.

This will come as a huge shock as the Spaniard has been a stalwart member of the United squad for almost a decade and is one of the first names on the team sheet at Old Trafford.

David de Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and by letting him go United would merely repeat the mistakes of last season’s dreadful transfer debacle.

The Red Devils should forget about any notions of trying to sell their star player and focus on arrivals instead.

The club have plenty of funds available to spend and there is no need for the Red Devils to get rid of the Spaniard.
