Huge shock as Manchester United plan to sell star player on the cheap

Manchester United are expected to make a huge decision on the future of their current star player and could allow him to leave on the cheap.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been under huge scrutiny as Manchester United boss. He has taken the brunt of the criticism aimed at the club’s miserable run of form and their inability to sign the appropriate reinforcements in the January transfer window.

The club’s poor run of form has seen the Red Devils slide further down the table and their chances of making the top four in the Premier League become slimmer and slimmer.

Things are not looking bright for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side. Despite being desperate to return the club to where they belong, Solskjaer has failed miserably in his endeavour. If anything the club has somewhat regressed under his tenure.

But alas, hope still remains. Undertaking such a massive rebuild takes time and effort and there will be inevitable failures along the way.

If Solskjaer is to be successful in the long run, the Norwegian must ensure he is able to retain some of the club’s best assets. Solskjaer is already fighting a losing battle in terms of Paul Pogba in that sense according to reports and it seems that the United boss could also allow another one of the club’s star players to leave on a permanent basis.

Chris Smalling was recently dubbed by United legend Rio Ferdinand as the ‘best defender’ at Old Trafford. The long serving United centre back has certainly upped his game whilst on loan in the Serie A for AS Roma with some stellar performances. Smalling has quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the league.

Meanwhile United have struggled defensively this season and the return of Smalling would be hugely welcomed at Old Trafford.

However it seems that United are not planning on bringing Smalling back to the club.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via the Daily Mail Manchester United will be willing to make Smalling’s departure to Roma permanent for just £15 million.

That is an incredibly low figure for someone who has been one of the best centre backs in the Italian division and who has the potential to bolster United’s squad.
