The Portuguese international arrives with high hopes and the expectation is that he will become a key player for the Red Devils for many years to come.

Bruno Fernandes certainly seems like the right fit for the club.

He has dominated the Portuguese division ever since his arrival at Sporting in 2017. The midfielder has amassed a total of 63 goals and 52 assists during his time in Portugal in just 137 appearances.

United will hope he will bring those statistic with him to Old Trafford too.

The United faithful will be even more curious to find out what sort of player Bruno Fernandes is.

Usually Fernandes likes to play in the number ten role, picking up pockets of space in the gap between the opposition’s midfield and defence. Bruno Fernandes is exemplary in those spaces and has a knack for putting himself into the right positions with clever runs.

When he receives the ball Bruno Fernandes is good at feigning challenges and opening up spaces for him to unleash his lethal shooting power. This has seen him score some spectacular long range strikes so far in his career.

In addition, Fernandes also likes to pick up the ball from just outside the penalty area and make those crucial final balls for his teammates to latch onto. Equally Fernandes is comfortable playing in a more deep lying position where his distribution shines. The Portuguese has the ability cut through defences with long balls over the top. These passes would be perfect for the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to run onto. Meanwhile his passes in the final third and shooting range could become vital components when United face deep lying defences who sit back and allow the Red Devils to play. Whereas teams have enjoyed success deploying such tactics against United this season against a player like Fernandes this could be dangerous.

In addition Bruno Fernandes will also bring a threat from set-pieces with his pin-point accuracy and striking technique.

Ultimately Bruno Fernandes suits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s formation well. He can play in the number ten role in a 4-2-3-1 formation and will be a breath of fresh air in place of the likes of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
