2. The youth are more than capable
Plenty of times this season the Red Devils faithful have seen players stepping up from the academy through the likes of Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood. The pair have both proved they are more than capable of playing in the first team.
And the implementation of youth is the core ethos of the club. At the heart of both Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson’s success was their ability to develop and bring through a whole plethora of youth talent into the first team.
The signing of Kalidou Koulibaly therefore could thwart some of the development of the club’s youth players. That would be a huge disaster as the Red Devils have some extremely promising young centre backs in their academy at the moment ready to make the step-up.
One is the young England U18 international Teden Mengi who has made huge strides this season. At just 17 years of age he is already a key member of the Red Devils’ U23 squad and he has put in some solid performances. He looks composed and strong on the ball. His got both the pace and the strength to ensure attackers struggle to get past him. Teden Mengi is of the same ilk as Kalidou Koulibably and much younger. The club should therefore focus on implementing Mengi into the first team rather buying Koulibaly for a hefty fee.
In addition another young centre back who has caught the eye this season is 16 year old William Fish who has already played some games at U23 level despite his tender age and looks set to become another promising talent.
