Manchester United: Solskjaer to sign midfielder from club legend
By Bence Bocsak
The Manchester United boss has purportedly set his sights on a player eyed by one of the Red Devils’ club legend and could beat him to his signature.
There are not many players who are remembered as fondly at Manchester United as the club’s former player David Beckham. The superstar is a product of the Red Devils’ academy and endured a successful decade at the club.
But things have taken the former player to pastures new and he is now in charge of a new franchise set to launch in the MLS for 2020.
In that new franchise Beckham has set out an ambition to build a team which will be capable of competing at the highest level in Major League Soccer.
And in that quest he seems to have found a perfect candidate to bolster his squad. However, his former club Manchester United and former team-mate, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, could thwart his plans completely.
The player in question is the young Boca Juniors midfielder Agustin Almendra who has been catching the eye in the Argentina fist division for the legendary club.
And according to Argentinian outlet AS Argentina via the Daily Express despite interest from David Beckham’s Inter Miami, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United has also identified the young midfielder as a potential target for the January transfer window.
The Red Devils are short of midfield options and it is clear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to add some reinforcements. Agustin Almendra could be the perfect option. The Argentina midfielder is an energetic fast player with long legs that can easily dart through defences. He is an accomplished tackler too and is not afraid to get stuck in. Due to his strong physical presence he should have no problem fitting into the Premier League.
Though whilst the addition will come as a huge boost at Old Trafford, across the pond it will be a major disappointment to David Beckham and a blow in his mission to establish Inter Miami as a major MLS franchise.
What do you think should Manchester United sign Agustin Almendra?
