Manchester United set to beat Liverpool for world class striker
By Bence Bocsak
Manchester United have been given a huge advantage over their arch rivals, Liverpool, in their bid to bring the world class striker to Old Trafford.
The rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool has often been one of the fiercest rivalries in world football. The games between the two teams have thrown up some ferocious battles and memorable moments for both clubs.
It is a rivalry steeped in tradition. The rivalry of the two biggest and most successful football clubs in English football. A rivalry that knows no limits or bounds. The hatred between the two teams is pure vitriol.
In the past, long before the crazy world of football transfers in the 21st century, much of the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United was fought on the football pitch. With a ball two sets of eleven players and a grass turf.
Nowadays this rivalry is not just contested within those perimeters. Often the two clubs have competed against one another in the transfer market too.
The competition to sign the best talents is always fierce and often it can determine the trajectory of the club for the upcoming season and sometimes even for the club’s long term future.
Therefore while it may not feel like it, when a team beats one of their rivals to a signing it can be a more monumental moment than a victory in the derby.
It has not been a secret that both Manchester United and Liverpool have coveted the RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner. The German striker has been one of the best forwards in world football over the last couple of seasons. And it seems he could be on the move in the summer.
However, it seems Manchester United have been given a huge boost to sign Timo Werner over Liverpool. According to The Athletic via the Daily Express Werner ‘rejected’ a move to Liverpool last year as he wants guaranteed ‘regular football.’ Timo Werner did not see that at Liverpool.
That will be music to the ears of Manchester United fans as at the Red Devils Timo Werner would without a shadow of a doubt be a regular starter.
With Liverpool clearly out of the question, Manchester United could easily wrap up a deal for the RB Leipzig man in the summer if they are to make the Champions League spots this season.
That is a big ‘if’ but if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can pull it off, United could have a huge opportunity to sign a truly world class talent in Timo Werner.
What do you think will Manchester United sign Timo Werner?
